| HiperLAN stands
for High Performance Radio Local Area Network. It
is a wireless LAN standard developed by the Broadband
Radio Access Networks (BRAN) division of the European
Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).
There are two specifications:
HiperLAN/1 and HiperLAN/2. It’s the European
version of IEEE 802.11 wireless technology used in
US.
So it is very similar
to IEEE 802.11a. It also operates in the 5GHz frequency
band using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing
(OFDM) and offers data rates of up to 54Mbps.
